TOP 5 TIPS ON HOW TO CHOOSE GARDEN FURNITURE

1. MAKE A LIST

Prioritise what you would like and need. Consider what is important to you.

Is it comfort, functionality, style, budget or where on earth you are going to store it when it’s tipping it down?

2. PLAN YOUR SPACE

Measure the area that you have to work with. We all know how tempting it is when you are standing in a showroom of garden furniture to end up picking the slightly larger garden set than you had originally thought of….(remember to bear in mind how you will get it home as well) if you don’t want to wait for the delivery option that is.

Hands up how many times you have driven home from Homebase/B&Q/Garden Centre with parts of a table or chair hanging out of your window or boot, praying the whole way home?

We have all been there, trying to cram it in the back of the car and discarding packaging in the desperate attempt to make it fit!

3. WHAT DO YOU WANT TO USE IT FOR?

It may seem like a silly question but really take time to think about how you will use it to ensure that it works for your needs. For instance, will you be spending most of your time relaxing? If so a sofa-style seating option could work for you or will you also want to be able to dine? In which case a more traditional style table and chairs could work. Or do you have the space and budget to combine both?

4. WHAT MATERIAL SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?

Chose wooden furniture for a traditional look but it will need some love and care to ensure that it is protected from all weather conditions. Some options will come with treated wood so you won’t need to do anything but provide some cover for it in bad weather.

Metal furniture comes in several styles and generally do not mind being left outdoors all year round if need be. Easy to care for and clean and not a great deal of upkeep is needed.

Rattan furniture is a great all-rounder as it’s hardwearing and generally very easy to care for.

Also, do you have any existing pieces that you can refurbish? A great way to introduce and change the colour of your furniture is to use outdoor paints suited for wood. Cuprinol offers a wide range of colours with some beautiful colour options so definitely take a look for some wonderful colour ideas.

5. CAN YOU STORE IT?

If only we had the weather all year round so we didn’t have to consider how to store it. Does it fold away? Would it be easy to pack away in the winter? It will add years to the life of your outdoor furniture if you are able to store it during the winter, so it’s definitely worth taking it into consideration when you are making the initial investment.

Hopefully, that gives you a good place to start on where to start when choosing garden furniture.
