HOW TO DECORATE ON A BUDGET..

1. PLAN AND PRIORITIZE

First things first, search for ideas and styles that you really like. Pinterest is a great resource for home decorating ideas and general all-around creative inspiration.

Put together some images of colours you are drawn to. You could also have a little look here to find out What colour personality you are

This should give you a good place to start and an idea of what colours you are naturally drawn to.  You can find lots of inspiration here on what colour themes you might like to use and what suits your personality and lifestyle.

2.   ASSESS THE SPACE

Think about the following:

  • What would you really like to change?
  • What could you really do without to free up some space? (be honest!)
  • What has a purpose in the space and needs to be kept?

Take this time to declutter, much like my mum always used to say “you will feel so much better once it’s done” Cue massive sigh and eye roll from me, it was always the absolutely last thing that I wanted to do, and still is today if I’m honest! But do have a go at decluttering because it will really change how you see the space and give you a much clearer idea of what direction to go in.

3.  ADD SOME COLOUR

Paint is by far one of the easiest and most affordable options to brighten up your home. You could try a feature wall, paint all walls, or even try the two-tone style. There is a great variety of paints out there to suit every budget. Find some great decorating colour schemes here

4.  REPURPOSE AND UPCYCLE

Think creatively, how can you bring a new look and feel to the space? For example, do you have a favourite chair you could re-upholster, or if that turns out to be a bit on the pricey side would a fresh lick of paint do the trick. Depending on the item and if you are confident there are a lot of resources out there on how to have a go at re-upholstering yourself, have a little look into it and see what best fits your budget. Are there other pieces of furniture that are looking a bit tired? A coat of paint could really transform them. How to decorate on a budget

5.   CHANGE CUPBOARD DOOR HANDLES

Another quick and easy way to revamp furniture is to change the handles. Have a look at your bedside tables, chest of drawers, wardrobes and kitchen cupboards to see what could be changed.

6.  GET ORGANIZED

We are all guilty of it…….clutter always seems to accumulate in corners of every home. So why not take this opportunity to reorganize and add storage. There are so many great storage options on the market now. You can even find options that don’t have to be hidden away, more often than not they can actually be a really nice feature to a room and add to the design style. Think metal storage trunks, wicker baskets, open shelving, or even pretty patterned cardboard boxes.

7.  REARRANGE THE ROOM

If the room allows for it why not move pieces around into a new layout, have a play around and see what works and what feels right.

8.  MAKE A FOCAL POINT

Can you make a focal point in the room? By making a focal point in the room it’s the first thing that the eye is drawn to as you enter, so this is a really easy way to refresh a room and make a statement. Why not try one of the below ideas:

  • Add more space and light by adding a large mirror or collection of smaller mirrors.
  • Paint one wall to create a feature wall
  • Add a colourful piece of artwork
  • Hang a picture gallery
  • Hang a statement pendant light or light shade

9. ADD SOME GREENERY

Adding greenery is a great way to add texture and interest to a room. Plants offer great health benefits as well, if you are a dab hand with plants why not add some house plants or failing that, there are so many great faux plants on the market now as well.Decorating on a budget

10. HANG A PHOTO GALLERY

Everyone loves a photo gallery, you can go matchy-matchy and get new picture frames if your budget allows, or you can go for more of an eclectic look and use existing frames and mix and match them. How to decorate on a budget
